PUNT - Stands for Picking Up Neighborhood Trash

We are a team of people who volunteer to pick up trash in our neighborhoods and surrounding areas, simple as that. Zachary Quintana founded PUNT in August of 2024. Having a long lived passionate for nature and the environment, Zach decided to create an organization that would help keep the environment clean.

When you're going around town cleaning trash from parks, creeks, and schools; people naturally want to know the reasons behind your actions. If you're there serving community service as a punishment for a crime, it definitely won't be as noble as volunteering (TLDR; thats what PUNT does!).

The number one question I get while conducting/participating in clean ups is just that; "what is this for?" "Who are you with?" "What school is this?" "What did you do?" Well enough is enough.

While I could have taken a more jargon filled approach: "Punt is a community driven youth inspired and founded array of volunteers ranging ages 13-70 independently founded and school sponsored organization that seeks to reduce litter and waste in the larger area of the bay area." I'd rather keep it short and to the point.

The PUNT Difference

Rather than theorizing, and suggesting changes for schools and cities to make their locations cleaner, Punt volunteers are out there- doing the work. Punt operates on multiple different sites, ranging from creeks or bodies of water, to schools and parks.

The best part is, we're a community of likeminded individuals who want to clean up our beautiful bay area, and preserve it for future generations to come.

While I understand that picking up trash is like pouring a water bottle on a nuke, I still do it. Regardless of the benefit towards the environment, PUNT has a psychological effect on its participants and spectators. If we ever want to change the way we view and treat our world in the grand scheme of things, we need to begin with awareness.

PUNT does just this, and so for now thats where we'll stay, keeping our neighborhood, the bay area, clean and supporting environmental civic engagement. One piece of plastic at a time.
