For comparison, the global average background radiation on the ground is only about 2.4 mSv per year. Over a career, these exposures add up, raising concerns about cancer and other health risks. That’s why strategies like adjusting altitude and flight paths during solar storms matter — they aren’t just abstract science, they’re practical protections for the people who spend their lives in the skies.
